Building a Family-Style Home

Grupo de Amor began building a family-style residence in 2011, but it was still under construction three years later. The plan was for it to become a home for a new family – 12 orphaned children and 2 house parents.

The best option for an orphan, short of reuniting them with their birth family, is to build a new one! A childless young couple was available and standing-by to parent the children. But the orphanage didn’t have the funds to finish the construction or outfit it with appliances, fixtures, or furniture.

With a grant from the World Orphan Fund, they were able to finish the home in just 8 weeks. It was built entirely by volunteers from Canada, the United States, and Mexico working hand-in-hand with Mexican trades people.
