Meet Emilio, Age 2

Emilio (pseudonym)  is a bright, smiling little boy who loves animal games and lights up when he knows you’re looking at him. He makes sweet sounds—babbling and laughter—and he’s already showing something powerful: the desire to connect. He watches his caregiver closely, seeks to be seen, and makes strong eye contact.

But right now, Emilo doesn’t have functional words, and he struggles to understand simple everyday concepts like “put away,” “we’re finished,” and “next.” 

Without early intervention, these gaps can widen quickly. The good news: his prognosis is excellent with consistent speech therapy reinforced at his orphanage with simple exercises.

Emilio is a new case at the Walker Center. Without our expanded clinics and the new van, he likely wouldn’t receive therapy at all. Distance and transportation costs keep so many families from getting help—especially when the child is very young, and the needs are urgent.
