Earlier this month in Antigua, Guatemala our Walker Center brought together directors of orphanages, psychologists, and caregivers, for a weeklong trauma training seminar. Participants learned more about the impact of trauma on young brains and developed additional skills to meet the needs of children in their care. The trainees came from seven organizations that serve more than 200 children. We flew in a skilled instructor to teach TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention), an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.
The trauma these children endure is shattering. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually shattering. But—this education offers a path that will change their lives forever and for the better.
