Yodvin’s Life Saving Care

Three years ago, we met a nine-year-old boy in Guatemala named Yodvin—full of personality, humor, and joy. He also had severely bowed legs caused by a genetic condition. Without treatment, doctors said he would eventually spend his life in a wheelchair.

In 2023, board member Kate Spadino took on Yodvin’s case personally. Through months of persistence and advocacy, she worked closely with doctors at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Portland, navigating complex medical and legal hurdles to make treatment possible in the United States.

Because of that tireless effort—and an incredible community of supporters—Yodvin received life-changing care at Shriners. But his journey wasn’t finished.

Last week, now eleven years old, Yodvin returned to Shriners for a second surgery to rotate his femurs. The good news: the surgery went well. He’s already out of the hospital and recovering at the Ronald McDonald House with his caregiver. The months ahead will include physical therapy—but he is surrounded by expert care, love, and encouragement.
