Sewing a Future

In Kisumu, Kenya, many young women step into adulthood alone—aging out of orphanages, leaving school too early, or becoming mothers before they ever had a chance to choose their own path.

They’re strong. They’re hopeful. But without opportunity, hope doesn’t pay the rent.

That’s why our partner, Manna Ministries, created a one-year tailoring program—teaching girls to design patterns, stitch garments, and believe in their own potential again.

But to earn a living as a tailor in Kenya, you need one essential tool: a sewing machine. Each one costs just $200. And with it, a newly trained seamstress can start working immediately—creating school uniforms, repairing clothing, and building a dignified income that changes everything.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors—and the leadership of World Orphan Fund board member Steve Donovan, who rallied others to join him—80 young women will now walk into their future fully equipped.

A sewing machine may seem like a simple tool. But in the right hands, it becomes dignity, stability, and a story rewritten.
